"And while I could not always suppress the violent thoughts that raged inside me, I would nevertheless dedicate my life to seeking alternatives to physical violence and would wrestle continually with the problem of transforming psychic violence into creative energy.” -- Pauli Murray, "Song in a Weary Throat"

In a world where violence abounds, these words are on time. This quote has inspired us at the Pauli Murray Center for History & Social Justice to hold a creative social gathering where we consider how we adaptively create the kind of world that allows us to heal and flourish together. In collaboration with the NorthStar Church of the Arts, we will host 60-80 guests for a night of food, performance, and community on September 21, starting at 6PM. People will form deeper bonds with the Pauli Murray Center and be invited to join an ongoing effort to transform Pauli Murray's family property into a shared community and culture site where people, both near & far, are welcomed to engage meaningfully in history and social justice work. We plan to open this site in 2020.

To this end, we are collecting monetary donations to subsidize the cost of this program, to compensate those providing food & performance for their time and energies, and to ultimately support the broader effort of opening the Pauli Murray Center in 2020. While we have a goal of raising $5000 as part of this event, we prioritize making this creative gathering a protected space, focusing less on raising funds and more on building relationships so that anyone who finds inspiration in Pauli Murray can contribute to this effort with dignity. Please consider offering a tax-deductible donation and inviting others in your networks to contribute as they can. Thank you in advance for your support!

We look forward to making this event a reality and to connecting with more people through the life and legacy of Pauli Murray.
